Meanderings of an Amateur Linguist

Just me and my languages – a dangerous combonation

Book Reviews

I’ve started doing book reviews. I realized that I should share my knowledge.🙂 I give a rating based on 5 criteria:

Entertainment value: I give 2 points if I couldn’t put it down, 1 if it was mildly interesting, and 0 if it was boring.

Informational accuracy: 3 if i can’t find any mistakes, 1 if it’s a random one, or 0 if I don’t feel that anything was researched before the book was printed.

Usefulness: 5 if everything can be used in real life. This means that I felt all of their vocabulary was useful and up to date. 4 if it teaches some arbitrary vocab. 3 if it spends tons of time on out of date vocabulary. 2 if it still uses terms that are not even in use now-a-days (like teaching the word for communist in lesson one of a Mandarin book). 1 if I can’t even apply the vocab to my everyday life.
